5 Quick Crochet Projects For The Busy Mom

 quick crochet projects

If you’ve been crocheting for a while, then, you know that one thing is true. Crochet is not really all that fast. That was something I didn’t notice as much before I was a mother. (more on that later) However, there are some quick crochet projects that you can make if all you have are stolen moments.

Why I need quick crochet projects

I have a 6 month old (at the time of writing this) and having even less time than I had before. This has shown me that crocheting larger projects while I was pregnant was indeed a luxury lol.

I’ve been attempting to crochet for a while now and I have come to the conclusion that my baby can sense the interaction of the yarn and hook being in my hand at the same time. She only appears to be sleeping or happily occupied by other things until the yarn and hook occurrence can be sensed… she obviously possesses some type of radar.

The transformation

My daughter is a generally happy baby. So,  imagine my surprise when I found that the mere act of crocheting seemed to trigger a transformation of my sweet baby girl turning into a yarn gremlin who desperately needs both of my hands, and all my attention immediately. If I attempt to put off this gremlin for any length of time it will become enraged and start screaming and scratching at anything within reach. When a person isn’t available to sink its claws into, it will start to inflict harm on its own face..

Note: gloves seem to have no impact on the gremlins ability to hurt itself and others.

In any case I’ve tried to appease the tiny gremlin that my daughter becomes by informing it that my divided attention is in fact for her! I’m trying to make her a toy! This falls on deaf ears.

I have not fully given up my endeavor of trying to crochet. However, I have realized the falsehood of my previous statements on this site…there is no such thing as a quick project by normal standards of time. Just quick by crochet standards… which seem to require at least 15 minutes to make any sort of progress.

Having said that, I have 5 projects that are pretty fast. I will tell you about how long they take too!

1. Crochet Candy Corn

When I say this one is fast, I mean it took me 3 minutes to make one of these adorable candy corns, once I got the pattern down. It will probably take you about 10 tops to make this pattern. I also love how versatile this pattern is, you can change the colors to fit any holiday. Plus I’ve been making them in chenille yarns lately.. and my goodness are they cute!

2. round ball pattern

The time on this project depends on the size you choose to make with this pattern. But a small ball only took me 7 mins, the bigger one took 15.

I’ve made a few of the small ones for my little one to play with and she loved holding them. (And throwing them) I’m thinking of making some crochet Montessori toys with them or maybe some fruit.. what do you think?

3. Crochet cotton rounds

These facial scrubbies are a very quick crochet project. They are just 6 rounds and take about 5 to 10 minutes to make! I like to make about 7 of them so that i can use one a night instead of having to buy the cotton rounds for my skin care.

4. Meditation egg

Meditation isn’t something i get to do much these days. However I do still like to have one of these eggs in my pocket for grounding purposes. Much like the ball, my little one was quite taken with the tiny egg that fits in her hand.

5. Cute Crochet Heart

This is probably one of my most popular patterns and its for good reason. This heart takes about 5 minutes to make and it’s faster once you get the hang of it!

I have a bunch of ideas on what to do with the hearts once you make them in the post for it too!
