Learn To Make A Crochet Water Bottle Holder

Crochet water bottle holder by Becka Hons

It’s beginning to look a lot like summer! The heat is real in my neck of the woods and staying hydrated is important to be mindful about. I don’t know about you, but definitely I tend to drink more when I have water near by. So, I thought I’d make a Boho inspired crochet water bottle holder and share the pattern with you, my lovely Stitchcrafters. Now you too can stay hydrated, and look stylish while you’re at it.

I personally love to go for walks so, this is great to sling over my neck before I head out the door. Although, I will admit that lately, the only walk I want to take, is to a lake. Even my pup is feeling the heat, while I’m out watering the garden, my puppy has been getting some watering too. Maybe that’s why he’s growing at a similar pace to the tomatoes….hmm, something to think about.

I usually prefer a cross body configuration when I wear a book bag, or anything with a strap really. That’s why this pattern in particular has a nice long handle to sling over your head. However, because you’re crocheting the strap, you can make it as long or short as you’d like. I think that’s why I like these types of patterns, because they’re so easy to customize to fit your needs and style

Now, without further ado, here we go with the pattern!

Crochet Water Bottle Holder Pattern

The water bottle I’m using is a regular 16 oz one from an Aldi 24 pack. You can tweak the pattern to fit your bottle, simply by changing the hook a size bigger or smaller or changing the yarn weight.

So, just make sure the bottom is big enough to fit the widest part of the bottle and tall enough to cover about 3/4 of the water bottle.

The measurement for the bottle is 8 inches tall and 8 1/4 inches around at the largest part.

Foundation Round: In a Mc make 8 scs, tighten the tail, slst into the first sc.

Round 1: Ch 2 (this is not a dc), put 2 Dcs in each sc. You should have 16 Dcs

Round 2: Ch 2 (this is not a dc), put a Dc in the same st, put 2 Dcs in the next st, *Dc 1, put 2 Dcs in the next st*, repeat *-*, when you come to the end slst to the 1st st, you should have 24 dcs.

Round 3: Ch 3, put 1 Dc in the Bl of each st. <24>

Round 4: Ch 1, lengthen the loop, *make 1 puff st, make 1 Dc in each of the next 3 sts,* repeat *-* until you come to the end, slst into the top of the puff st to join the round. <24>

Round 5: Ch 3, put 1 dc in each st. <24>

Round 6: Ch 1, put a hdc in the same st, make a hdc in each st, slst to the first hdc. <24>

Round 7: Ch 3, make 1 dc in each st, slst to the first st to join. <24>

Round 8: Ch 1, lengthen the loop on your hook, make a puff st in the same st, make 1 puff st in each st of the round, slst to the first st. <24>

Make sure it fits your bottle here so you can correct it if it doesn’t.

Round 9: Ch 3, put 1 dc in each st, slst into the first st. <24>

Round 10: Ch 1, make a bphdc in each st, slst to the first bphdc. <24>

Round 11: Ch 3, put 1 dc in each st, slst into the first st. <24>

Round 12: Ch 1, lengthen the loop on your hook , *make 1 puff st, make 3 Dcs in the next 3 sts,* repeat *-* until you come to the end, slst into the top of the puff st to join the round. <24>

Round 13-14: Ch 1, put a sc in the same st, put 1 sc in each st, slst to the first st. <24>

Do not tie off unless you want to change yarn colors for the strap.

The strap

Strap: Ch 1, make 4 scs.

*Ch 1, turn, make 4 scs.*

Repeat *-* until you reach your desired length. I decided on 214 rows.

It might sound a bit daunting, but because there’s only 4 sts, it goes pretty quickly. I like my straps quite loose and low hanging so make sure you amend the length to your preference.

Once you finish your strap you can either sew it to the base or you can make a button closure.

I chose a button, so:

Row 215. Ch 1, 1 sc in the same st, ch 2, skip 2 sts, put a sc in the last st.

Row 216. Ch 1, turn, sc in the same st, 2 scs in the ch space, 1 sc in the last st.

Row 217-218. Ch 1, turn, put 1 sc in each st.

Weaving in the ends

Sew a button on to the base so that it’s parallel with the other side of the strap. Make sure the button fits through the hole in the strap before you sew it.

When you’re done, snip the yarn leaving an 4 inch tail. Secure the end of the yarn and cut off the excess.

Weave in the other end with a yarn needle.

That’s it! Here’s a picture of it completely finished!
