This crochet peppermint ornament is so cute, you’ll want to make a whole bunch of them!
Upcycling is always a good idea and this project will have you hunting through you’re recycling bin for safety rings off of bottles. I think the smaller ones off of water bottles look the cutest with this pattern, but I have this leafy wreath for the bigger rings so make sure you save those too.
This project is easy to do and only has 2 rows. So, you can work up a few of them in no time. It’s also a good project for beginners to the craft or as an introduction for children. What I love most about this peppermint pattern, besides how easy it is, is how you would never guess that the base for it was destined for the trash bin.
So, let’s get to the pattern!

Put 3 hdcs in each of the next 3 sts, switch to green, put 1 hdc in the same st as the last white hdc, put 3 hdcs in each of the next 3 sts. Continue this alternating pattern til you reach the last green st.

Switch to white and slst to the very first white hdc.

Ch 4 at the top of the white hdc, slst to the 2nd ch from the hdc, ch 6, slst to the first ch of the 6, ch 3, slst to the first of the ch 3, slst to the very first ch of the ch 4.

Cut the tail, pull the loop through, and use ayarn needle to secure the “ruffle” in place, and secure the end as shown.
Step 3.

Use the needle to weave in any remaining ends.
Step 4.

Take your 4 ply yarn, and split it in 2 groups of two, then tie a bow around the “ruffled” end to make it look like a peppermint wrapper. Repeat the bow for the other side.
You can use a few strands of embroidery thread instead of yarn plys.
That’s it! These peppermints are a wonderful addition to your holiday decor, and are easy to work up.
