I love how this cauldron came out!! I’m glad to say that this pattern is no sew. The little feet are built in and so is the curl at the top. I ended up making two reels about this pattern over on Instagram. I’ll leave you a short list of things you can use this cauldron for at the end of the post. But now let’s get into it!
Supplies
- Worsted weight yarn
- G+/4.5mm hook
- snips
- yarn needle
- Stitch marker
Note: I used Peaches and Creme cotton in black for most of my finished product photos. I used Just Yarn Worsted in light grey for the tutorial so you can see better.
Abbreviations
- Mc = Magic Circle
- Sc = single crochet
- Inv dec = Invisible Decrease
- Bobble st = *Yarn over, go into your st, pull up a loop, pull through 2 loops,* repeat those steps in the same st (from * to *) 4 times.
Special stitches
Bobble stitch tutorial: *Yarn over, go into your st, pull up a loop, pull through 2 loops,* repeat those steps in the same st (from * to *) 4 times.
Bobble stitch tutorial: You should have 6 loops on your hook, yarn over and pull through all of the loops. You will have one loop on your hook.
Invisible decrease tutorial: Insert your hook under the front loops only of the next 2 sts, yarn over, pull through both loops, yarn over, pull through 2.
The Small Spooky Crochet Cauldron Pattern
This pattern uses a locking Mc. If you like, I have a tutorial on how to do that here:

Most of this pattern is worked in a spiral, so I highly recommend using a a stitch marker.
Round 1. In a locking Mc, make 8 sc. <8>
Round 2. Make 1 sc in the first st and put a stitch marker in it, make another sc in the same st, put 2 scs in each of the next 7 sts, until you reach your stitch marker. <16>
Round 3. Make 1 sc in the first st and put a stitch marker in it, put 2 scs in next st, *make 1 sc in the next st, put 2 scs in the st after*, repeat from *-* until you reach your stitch marker. <24>
Round 4. Make 1 sc in the first st and put a stitch marker in it, make 1 sc in the next st, put 2 scs in st after, *make 1 sc in the next 2 sts, put 2 scs in the st after*, repeat from *-* until you reach your stitch marker. <32>
For the feet
Round 5. Make 1 sc in the first st and put a stitch marker in it, make 1 sc in the next 2 sts, put 2 scs in st after, put 1 sc in the next st, make 1 bobble st in the next st, make 1 sc,
Round 5 (continue). then put 2 scs in the next st, make 1 sc in the next 3 sts, put 2 scs in the next st, make 1 sc in the next 3 sts, put 2 scs in the next st, put 1 sc in the next, make 1 bobble in the st after,
Round 5 (continue). 1 sc in the next st, make 2 scs in the next st, make 1 sc in the next 3 sts, put 2 scs in the next st, make 1 sc in the next 2 sts, put 1 bobble st in the next, make 2 scs in the next st, make 1 sc in the next 3 sts, put 2 scs in the next st. You should have 3 bobble stitches and 37 scs when you’re finished.
Tip: If you made your bobble sts correctly, you will only have 40 sts total. if you have more than 40, you probably chained to lock the bobble in place. You should go from pulling through all 6 loops to the sc in the next st.
Round 6. Make 1 sc in the first st and put a stitch marker in it, make 1 sc in each of the remaining sts. <40>
to make the belly of the cauldron
Round 7. Make 1 sc in the first st and put a stitch marker in it, make 1 sc in the next 3 sts, put 2 scs in st after, *make 1 sc in the next 4 sts, put 2 scs in the st after*, repeat from *-* until you reach your stitch marker. <48>
Rounds 8-12. Make 1 sc in the first st and put a stitch marker in it, make 1 sc in each of the remaining sts. <48>
Round 13. Make 1 sc in the first st and put a stitch marker in it, make 1 sc in the next 3 sts, make an inv dec in st after, *make 1 sc in the next 4 sts, make an inv dec in st after*, repeat from *-* until you reach your stitch marker. <40>
Rounds 14-16. Make 1 sc in the first st and put a stitch marker in it, make 1 sc in each of the remaining sts. <40>
Round 17. Make 1 sc in the first st and put a stitch marker in it, make 1 sc in the next 2 sts, make an inv dec in st after, *make 1 sc in the next 3 sts, make an inv dec in st after*, repeat from *-* until you reach your stitch marker. <32>
To make the lip of the cauldron
Round 18. Make 1 sc in the first st and put a stitch marker in it, make another sc in the same st, put 2 scs in each of the next 31 sts, until you reach your stitch marker, sl st to join the last st to the first. <64>
Round 19. Ch 1, make an inv dec in the back loop of every st, slst to join. <32>
Cut your working yarn, leaving about a 5 inch tail, and weave it in. For a more in-depth tutorial on how the weave in your ends go here: The Crochet Basics: How To Weave In Ends.
Just roll down the side so that your cauldron has a curved top/lip.
If you did a locking Magic Circle then you can just snip the tail as it’s already secure. If you used a regular Magic circle, or an alternative, than you will have to secure it by weaving it in.
What to do with The crochet cauldron Pattern
It definitely looks like a cauldron, but crochet cauldron is basically a small basket. So, just about anything you would do with a 2 3/4″ inch tall 3 1/2″ inch wide basket.
- Use it as a party favor
- Instead of using a bag, just make up a bunch of these and put your party favors inside.
- Put a light inside
- Just put a LED candle, a small package of fairy lights, or a glow stick inside to give it a glow.
- Put candy in it
- This one is obvious, but candy is always a good idea.
- Use it to hold small items on a table or desk
- I’ve been using one to hold notions and another to hold paper clips and binder clips. It would definitely work for jewelry, crystals, or any other small items that you want to keep in a cauldron.
